There are so many ways to reduce your stress levels, but I decided to take on a fun approach by sharing these pleasurable stress management activities:

  • Play Games.

Games can be a great form of stress relief as they have a way of keeping us happy and careless. According to experts, just about any type of game can be a fun way to relieve stress. You can play some serious sport, run around with children, sit down for some mind games or play some video games.

All these types of playful activities can somehow contribute to stress relief but their mechanisms in relieving stress vary. For example, mind games basically reduce stress levels by shifting your focus while sports provide an outlet for pent up emotions or negative energy. So if you think games are just for kids, then think again. They may be just what you need to get de-stressed.

  • Get A Massage.

A trip down to your favorite spa is sure to be fun, pampering and stress-relief in one. Numerous studies show that there is significant reduction in stress levels after a person receives a good massage.

Although there are many speculations as to how massage brings about stress reduction, the most common and widely recognized is that it helps decreases muscle tension by loosening, stretching and lengthening muscle fibers.

Furthermore, massage increases levels of mood-regulating hormones serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin thereby producing a calm, general sense of well-being.

  • Watch A Movie.

Yes, the simple and the seemingly trivial act of watching a movie can actually bring about stress relief. An enjoyable, interesting or funny movie can momentarily take your mind off whatever is causing you stress and give your mind and body some time to cool down and relax.

I would usually watch funny or light-hearted movies whenever I feel stressed out as they really help me loosen up and forget about whatever is bothering me. But you are free to choose whatever movie you like. The point here is to give your mind a break. Give it a chance to wander someplace else even just for a while.

  • Go Out With Friends.

Great company can be very helpful in relieving your stress. Supportive, sincere and helpful friends can do a lot to lessen the burden that you are carrying. They can be great sounding boards for you to vent out your frustrations, they can take your mind off your problems through fun-filled conversations and activities and they may even go the extra mile to help you resolve whatever it is that is bothering you.

A lot of people may hesitate to be with their friends during stressful times believing that they are better off spending their time figuring things out on their own. But psychiatrists say that being around positive people during stressful times is more beneficial than being alone.

  • Cook.

Cooking is a great de-stresser because it serves as a creative outlet. While stress cause your senses to numb, cooking has the ability to activate them. When cooking, all the senses are activated and excited – the sense of smell, the sense of taste, the sense of touch, the sense of sight and even the sense of sound.

Cooking ensures such an intense involvement with an activity that it’s possible to forget, at least for a little while, about less than pleasant aspects of life. Furthermore, cooking makes you feel good because you have accomplished something for yourself and for the people you love. So try cooking the next time your stress and turn that negative energy to something delicious.

Managing stress need not be difficult or tasking – it can be fun. Try to remember these fun activities and do them the next time you feel stressed out. You’ll never know, they may just be the stress cure you have been looking for.
