It is a long-known fact that having high self esteem is essential to good health. But recent studies reveal that high self esteem is a powerful predictor of success and happiness.
Unfortunately, statistical data show that cases of people suffering from inferiority complex, depression and other similar disorders have grown in number.
Although saddening, this information does not surprise me; given that sources of low self-esteem can be found in all sectors of our society–from educational institutions, the media, the workplace, social and religious institutions, peer relationships to personal relationships.
Although having a good level of self worth can be quite a battle these days, it can still be done–and doing so doesn’t even have to be complex. See the list of practical self-esteem boosting tips below to get started.
1. Avoid comparing yourself with other people.
Remember that there will always be someone better than you in the same way that you are better than other people.
2. Go easy on yourself.
Stop being your own critic. Avoid looking at yourself and seeing only your weaknesses. Get in the new habit of silencing your inner critic and start being your number one fan.
3. Be around positive and supportive people.
Avoid those people who make you feel unimportant. Choose to be in the presence of enthusiastic people with a positive disposition. Being surrounded by positive energy, you are likely to see the world in the same perspective as they do.
4. Do the things you love.
If you have a job that you despise, normally, you would find it hard to feel good about yourself. So, if you want to boost your self esteem, make sure that you are doing what you love to do. It would also be best to be in a workplace where you feel valuable. Aside from this, do other things that can make you happy. Spend time doing your hobbies.
5. Know who you are and what you can do.
Before you can develop a high self esteem, you need first to know who you really are—what you do best and what qualities you have that people appreciate. It would help if you make a long list of your personal breakthroughs ad your unique abilities and talents. Most people dwell on their inadequacies and then wonder why their life isn’t working out. Start focusing on your positive traits and you’ll stand a much better chance of achieving what you wish to achieve.
6. Know your weaknesses.
Having a high sense of self esteem does not mean being perfect, it means being able to accept who you are as a person—strengths and weaknesses alike. If you know your weaknesses, you would know which things you need to change or improve in yourself. If you have some weight issues, then adopt a fitness plan.
You cannot expect to improve your self esteem if you don’t do anything. Actions will yield out results.
You cannot build a high self-esteem overnight—it is a process, often a long and difficult one. Nevertheless, everyone has the capacity to be successful in this process, one just need to have the commitment. If you really are committed to improving your self esteem you can consider these simple tips on how to have high self esteem and try them.
